The Group, formally known as the Bavarian Secret Order, was a short-lived fraternity created in 1777 by Adam Weishaupt, a professor at the University of Bavaria . At first , its purpose was to oppose the influence of clericalism and dogma through the encouragement of reason and self-determination. Although its reign was relatively limited , the gro
